Understanding Elderberry
What is elderberry?
Elderberry is a small, dark purple fruit that grows on the elder plant. It has a deep berry flavor with earthy, tart notes and a naturally rich color. Elderberries have long been cooked into syrups, preserves, teas, cordials and sauces. Elderberry is a fruit—not a pharmaceutical ingredient and not something that must be treated like medicine.

Different
What makes Trisha’s Elderberries different?
Why isn’t your elderberry syrup thick or gritty?
Because elderberry syrup does not need to imitate cough syrup. There is nothing medicinal nor culinary about thickness that is right for elderberry. Thick means the berries are overprocessed or unnecessarily oversweetened.
We use only whole or cut & sifted berries, herbs and spices – never ground.
Some products rely on heavy sweetening, gums, starches, aggressive reduction or poorly filtered ingredients. Those choices can create a thick, sticky or gritty texture, but thickness does not prove quality or potency. Our syrup is intentionally smooth and pourable, with depth but no sludge.
What does “whole fruit and never juiced” mean?
We begin with whole dried elderberries. We do not rely on the water portion of fresh elderberries (what some companies call ‘juice’. We do not buy premade elderberry juice or concentrate. We control how the fruit is extracted, then filter the finished infusion for a polished texture. Starting with whole fruit gives us control over the extraction, the flavor, color and distinct characteristics that make it into the bottle.
Where do your elderberries come from and why?
Our berries have demonstrated exceptional color and anthocyanin concentration and are carefully cleaned and sorted.

Find Your Elderberry
Which product should I try first?
Start with Signature Elderberry Syrup. It is the product that built Trisha’s Elderberries and the clearest introduction to our approach. Whole elderberries are paired with honey, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, star anise and rose hips for a smooth, warmly spiced flavor customers often describe as “Christmas in a bottle.”
What is the difference between Signature and Premier Elderberry Syrup?
Signature is warm and layered, with ginger, cinnamon, cloves, star anise and rose hips.
Premier pairs elderberry with aronia berry and cinnamon, making it darker, more fruit-forward and less spice-driven.
Choose Signature for warming spice; choose Premier when you want the fruit to take center stage.
How do I choose between syrup, Shrub, Oxymel and Fire Cider?
Choose syrup for a smooth, gently sweet concentrate that works especially well in drinks, breakfasts and desserts. Choose a vinegar if you enjoy apple cider vinegar as part of your diet.
Elderberry Shrub for bright, fruit-forward acidity.
Elderflower Oxymel for a lighter floral balance of honey and vinegar.
Fire Cider when you want something bold, savory and warming, with horseradish, ginger, garlic, onion and cayenne.
What is Elderflower Syrup?
Elderflower Syrup is made from the fragrant blossoms of the elder plant rather than the berries. It is light, floral and gently citrusy. Add it to sparkling water, lemonade, tea, cocktails, mocktails, fruit or desserts.
Which products are least sweet?
Start with Fire Cider if you prefer bold, savory heat.
Elderberry Shrub is another strong choice because apple cider vinegar gives it a bright, tangy finish. Our syrups are balanced rather than excessively sweet, but honey gives them a naturally rounder flavor.
Ways to Enjoy
Do I have to take elderberry syrup by the spoonful?
Not at all. We intentionally make our elderberry products versatile for a variety of lifestyles, traditions and personal choices.
A spoonful is one option, not the entire purpose of the bottle. Pour it into sparkling water, lemonade, tea, smoothies, cocktails or mocktails. Swirl it into yogurt or oatmeal. Spoon it over pancakes, ice cream or cheesecake. Once elderberry leaves the medicine cabinet, the possibilities open up.
How much should I use?
Can I use the syrups in hot drinks or cooking?
Yes. Stir them into tea, warm cider or other hot drinks after the beverage is prepared. In the kitchen, use them in fruit sauces, glazes, salad dressings, desserts and baked goods. Begin with a small amount, taste and build from there.
How do I use Shrub, Oxymel and Fire Cider?
Dilute Shrub or Oxymel with still or sparkling water, or mix them into tea, lemonade, cocktails and mocktails. In the kitchen, use them in vinaigrettes, marinades, sauces and glazes.
Enjoy Fire Cider by the spoonful, dilute it in water or whisk it with olive oil for a fast dressing. It also adds heat and acidity to soups, roasted vegetables and savory drinks.
Should I shake the bottle?
Yes. Real fruit, herbs, spices and botanicals can settle naturally. Give the bottle a gentle shake before pouring so the flavor stays consistent from the first serving to the last.
Where can I find recipes?
Visit our recipe collection on the website for drinks, breakfasts, dressings, desserts and seasonal ideas. We want you to use the bottle—not let it disappear into the back of the refrigerator.
Ingredients and Dietary Details
Where can I find the complete ingredient list?
Every product page includes the complete ingredient list, and the ingredients are printed on the package. Because our collection includes syrups, vinegars, teas, culinary drops, jelly and body care, always review the specific product rather than assuming one answer applies to everything.
Are all of your ingredients organic?
We use organic ingredients when they are available and meet our standards, including the European black elderberries at the heart of our berry products. On occasion, one ingredient or another is difficult to find organic. We will choose wild-grown, then conventional, in that priority order, when organic is not available.
Our products are not certified organic. We feel strongly that the official seal is an unnecessary expense ($3000/year) when (unless stated) our ingredients are all certified organic already. Check the individual product page for current details.
Do your products contain honey, refined sugar or alcohol?
Our Signature, Premier and Elderflower syrups and all sipping vinegars contain honey. Some other foods, including jelly, may contain sugar when it serves a culinary or preservation purpose. Our syrups, sipping vinegars, teas and jelly do not rely on alcohol as an ingredient. Always check the individual product’s ingredient list for the most accurate answer.
Are your products vegan or gluten-free?
Products containing honey are not vegan. Some teas, vinegar preparations and other products may be suitable for a vegan diet, depending on their ingredients.
Our core syrups, sipping vinegars and teas are made without gluten-containing ingredients, and our facility is free-of-gluten. This is not the same as claiming production is in a certified gluten-free facility. That said, we do not bring in ingredients that include any wheat products, whatsoever.
Do your products contain common allergens?
No. We do not have allergens in our products. Read the complete ingredient list before purchasing. If you have a serious allergy or need information about possible cross-contact, contact us before using the product.
Do your syrups contain artificial colors, flavors or preservatives?
No. Their dark color comes from the fruit, especially elderberries and aronia berries, and their flavor comes from real fruit, honey, herbs and spices.
Storage and Freshness
What needs to be refrigerated?
Our syrups, Shrub, Oxymel and Fire Cider are shelf-stable before opening. Our syrups should be refrigerated after opened. Our vinegars carry less than a 3.5pH and do not have to be refrigerated; however, they are delightful chilled so many prefer to store them in the refrigerator anyhow.
How long do the products last?
Our syrups have a one-year unopened shelf life, while our vinegar-based products have an unopened shelf life of up to two years when stored properly.
On your bottle is a batch number for syrups. The 4th, 5th and 6th number represent the Julian Calendar date and the 7th number, the year. That will tell you the fresh-by date. So 2247 means that the batch will be freshest by August 12th 2027.
After opening, refrigerate as directed and keep the cap and bottle neck clean.
Is settling or slight variation normal?
Yes. Fine particles may settle, and color or flavor may vary slightly because we work with real agricultural ingredients. Shake liquid products gently before pouring. Natural settling is normal. Mold, leaking, unexpected pressure, uncontrolled foaming or a distinctly spoiled smell are not.
Can I freeze elderberry syrup?
Yes. Transfer it to a freezer-safe container with room for expansion, or freeze smaller portions in an ice cube tray. Thaw in the refrigerator and avoid repeatedly freezing and thawing the same portion.
What if my order arrives warm or frozen?
Our shelf-stable products do not need to remain cold during shipping. A warm bottle is not automatically unsafe. In cold weather, allow a frozen bottle to thaw slowly in the refrigerator.
Do not use any product if the glass is cracked, the cap has lifted, the seal is disturbed or the bottle is leaking. Photograph the package and contact us.
Children and Individual Considerations
Can children enjoy your elderberry foods?
Many of our foods can be enjoyed by children when their ingredients are appropriate for that child. Always read the complete ingredient list and serving information. Children’s ages, allergies and dietary needs vary, so questions specific to your child belong with their pediatrician or another qualified healthcare professional.
What if I am pregnant, nursing, taking medication or managing a medical condition?
We cannot determine whether a particular product is appropriate for your individual circumstances. Show the complete ingredient list and Nutrition Facts to your physician, midwife, pharmacist or another qualified healthcare professional. We can explain ingredients and culinary use, but we cannot evaluate medication interactions or provide personalized medical advice.
Are your products intended to treat illness?
No. Trisha’s Elderberries is a whole food company. We do not produce products treat diseases. Our products are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent illness.

Subscriptions and Repeat Orders
How do subscriptions work?
Subscriptions are available on select products and sizes. Choose the subscription option and available delivery frequency on an eligible product page. Future orders will process automatically according to that schedule and use the payment method connected to the subscription.
Can I change, skip, pause or cancel a subscription?
Yes. Subscriptions are fully managed by the Trisha’s Elderberries customer. We do not manage subscription accounts manually unless fixing an error.
Use your subscription account to view the options available for changing frequency, skipping an order, pausing service, updating products or canceling. Make changes before the next processing date. A change made after an order has been created does not automatically stop that order.
Will I receive a reminder?
We send a notice to the email address associated with the subscription before an upcoming order processes. Keep that address current and check spam or promotions folders if you are not seeing the message.
Can subscription discounts be combined with other offers?
Most one-time discount codes cannot be combined with a subscription discount unless a promotion specifically states otherwise. The current savings, shipping terms and eligible products appear on the product page and at checkout.
If you raise your prices, will subscription prices be grandfathered in?
From time to time, price adjustments are necessary. Subscriptions and one-time orders are both subject to those increases.
