The effect of herbal remedies on the production of human inflammatory and anti-inflammatory cytokines

  •   This study was led by the same authors as the study above, and did very much the same experiments.  This study also evaluated Echinacea and propolis. 
  •   In addition to observing changes in the cytokines in their previous study, they also observed an increase in IL10 (an anti-inflammatory cytokine). IL10 is known to balance the effects of TNF and other pro-inflammatory cytokines, so this suggests that elderberry balance the immune response. 
  •   Again, this study did not include statistical analyses.  This could be due to sample size.
